DX12 Won’t Help Xbox One To Reach 1080p, Don’t Expect Sudden Leap, Wait For Halo 5: Guardians
Resolution-gate has been one of the hot topic of discussion of new generation consoles war, many developers have openly admitted that due to ESRAM, they were unable to lock their games in native 1080p resolution on Xbox One as compared to Playstation 4 where almost all games runs at 1080p.
At GDC 2014, Microsoft introduced DX12, a tool to overcome shortcomings in Xbox One to achieve 1080p and many more performance improvements. The announcement received mixed response from developer community: Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock stated that DX12 will be a game changer for Xbox One whereas other stated that there won’t be a massive leap of improvement just a minute one.
“XBox One is the biggest beneficiary; it effectively gives every Xbox One owner a new GPU that is twice as fast as the old one.” stated Stardock
Today via insider source at NeoGaf some more information arrived backing the otherside of DX12 benefits on Xbox One story i.e “not a massive leap but minute benefit”
In a NeoGaf thread focused on ” Forza Horizon 2 IGN Preview”, few users wondered whether or not the game will run at 1080p on Xbox One as it is powered by the Forza 5 engine, and it was early speculated that Forza Horizon 2 would be the very first game that will take advantage of DX12 in order to achieve 1080p on Xbox One.
However, according to BruceLeeroy, well known insider (same man behind big third party Xbox One exclusive announcement at E3 2014 will be timed) has stated that fans should kept their hope in check with respect to DX12 benefits for Xbox One, it will be negligible, as told to him by developer friend of his at EA.
“So I’m no developer but I have a good friend who landed at EA and he basically said the same thing. Some things will be nice and streamlined but people expecting a sudden leap need to temper expectations.”
“He specifically told me it wouldn’t help in that case [reaching 1080P] because the ESRAM is a bottleneck that is really limiting with certain types of games. I bet you will see improvement everywhere but that. Just wait for H5”
